Recently I went to a co-working space in Newport Beach and decided to take you along for the ride to show you how I create Instagram stories while I’m on the go. >>I love IG stories because you are making micro-commercials about your business without SELLING your business!<< Stories keep your business top of mind for your followers. For example, if your ideal client is scrolling through stories and you’re frosting a cake in your bakery or backstage at a fashion show, they get to see YOU in real life, working on your business. *This allows your client to imagine what it would be like if you were working on THEIR project, shooting THEIR wedding, or designing THEIR website.* Today, I’m going to show you how to create a 4-slide Instagram story to provide your audience with value and create raving fans of your business. Here are the 4 types of slides I recommend you create for your next Instagram story: 1. Scene-Setter: This slide should contextualize your story by telling them where you are, then explain what they can expect when watching the consequent slides, and end with some type of personal insight to make a connection with them. Telling your followers that you will give them value in your story will entice them to keep watching. 2. Behind the Scenes: After you have set the scene for your IG story, it is great to then visually show them what you meant. For example, in the video above, I told my followers I was co-working at HanaHaus, so in the next slide I took a picture of the location. >>When people see a behind-the-scenes sneak peak of your business, you are being SOCIAL on social media… Not SELLING.<< 3. Boomerang: I like to break up my stories with boomerangs, videos, and still photos as if I was creating my own Netflix feature (like when I told an Instagram story with pizza)! To showcase who I’m with in this particular story, I chose to create a boomerang of me and JD cheersing our glasses. ![]() 4. Giving Value: If you have been following me for awhile, you know that one of my biggest tips for growing your business on Instagram is to provide consistent value for your audience. In the Instagram story I created above, I gave my audience 3 tips to get out of their normal work environment to increase productivity. >>Friend, Instagram stories are crucial for your audience to know, like, and trust you. And THIS is the way to lead to sales on social media!<< For a step-by-step checklist to create your own Instagram stories, I’d love for you to download your Free Instagram Story Checklist. Yesterday I had a conversation with someone on Instagram about one thing: overwhelm. She told me she was feeling so overwhelmed with everything she has to do in her business. >>She’s read dozens of books, listened to countless podcasts, and taken multiple courses but she had yet to implement what she learned, paralyzed by fear.<< If you’re overwhelmed in your business, drop a comment below because I think it’s something we don’t often talk about. In fact, we avoid showing the overwhelm so much that sometimes on social media, life looks perfect. Like, ‘The grass is always green, my dinner always looks like Thanksgiving, and I’m walking around with a perpetual smile.’ *gag* Do you ever feel like everyone else on Instagram has perfect lives like that? ![]() There was a time in my career that I would feel so overwhelmed that I would just do nothing. I would think, “I don’t know how this works, I don’t know where to begin,” and then I would stop. >>Let me tell you something friend: the only thing more tragic than making a mistake in business is not doing something to begin with.<< The only way I’m able to remove myself from the funk of being overwhelmed in my business is to take.action. Now, I take messy, scary, *ugly* action… Because action is the thing that moves us past fear. It is the ANTIDOTE to fear. >>We can choose to be overwhelmed and fearful… Or we can choose to do something that will move us past our greatest fears and doubts.<< I am here to tell you that I’ve been there. I used to be the exact.same.way as you–afraid to take a step forward because I don’t know which direction to walk in. But I’m going to save you years of time, stress, and worry. Take action [any action, boo!] because I know you were made to make a difference, buttercup. You can’t make an impact standing still. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2zvqK3O I used to say Instagram stories are like creating micro-commercials for your business, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. *And you can ask my husband, it takes a lot for me to say when I’m wrong…* >>Instagram stories are like your own Netflix feature!<< They are an opportunity for people to binge-watch snippets from your life and get to know you better. I used to create Instagram stories that were simply talking-head videos of me chatting to my followers about my day, my business, and anything else I wanted them to know. Although talking-head videos are effective, I found that you should create Instagram stories JUST like you would if you were creating your own Netflix special, by…

Did you know that in addition to my live chats, I create produced video content every.single.week. on IGTV, Facebook, and YouTube?! Dude, I love video. I didn’t always enjoy it *and I still don’t LOVE having to put makeup on >>Videos allow me to make a deeper connection with my audience, give you a look into my life, and make us feel like we are having a real conversation, one on one.<< Today, I want to give you a sneak peak into my video ideation, creation, and planning process! ![]()
>>Remember: as you create videos, think of your dream customers in order to produce content that helps/inspires/educates them.<< When you lead with value and benefits for THEM, you build trust…and trust is PRICELESS digital currency on the internet! Do you love creating videos for your audience? Want to start serving them with a new type of content? Let me know below where you are in the creation process so I can cheer you on from afar! via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2U6ngOD It’s time to flip the script, boo. While others can brag about getting 10k followers, I’m a fan of getting ONE.AT.A.TIME. I’m a huge fan of slow, authentic, organic growth.
I am here to connect and serve you well. >>When people ask for my best social media advice, this is all I got: GO DEEP, NOT WIDE.<< So how do you build engagement organically while building real, genuine relationships? ![]()
I show up on Instagram and Facebook live every single week. Not for thousands, but I talk to ONE person. >>This type of engagement shows people that I care, that I’m real, and more than anything it changes the relationship between me and my followers because my business leads with value and service.<< When you connect with people, share your time, and give your insight, it proves you’re there for them…not just you. Do you agree? Ready to start creating connections one by one? Leave a comment on this post and let me know if you found this strategy helpful! via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/33YBaXB Recently I was interviewed on James Wedmore’s podcast Mind Your Business three times (episodes 265, 266, and 267) for what he called “Jasmine Star Week.” (Great for my ego, I knowwww!) In the first episode titled “Reprogramming Failure,” we touched on the differences between a CEO and an entrepreneur and I wanted to unpack it for you today. >>Before we dive in to the key differences, let me deal it to you straight: I *LOVE* entrepreneurship.<< I love being an entrepreneur because I can move fast, I don’t have to respond to people or ask permission, it’s full of passion and I can fly by the seat of my pants. *Oh, my poor husband!* In my heart of hearts, I will always be an entrepreneur, just like I have been for 13 years. However, when I recently made the decision to scale Social Curator, I knew I needed to make changes in my mindset. >>I realized that if I wanted my business to grow bigger than myself, I needed to think more like a CEO than an entrepreneur.<< ![]() Let me tell you what I have learned are the key differences between a CEO and an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur…
A CEO…
CEO’s don’t think about having a business, they think about how many lives they want to impact, how a community will come together, to be a dream-caster and reverse-engineer the process. *In other words, CEO’s see the future vision, take themselves out of the process and have a team that will execute on it.* Now, I am thinking more like a CEO. But before you compare your beginning to my middle, let me remind you that changing my mindset from entrepreneur to CEO has not happened overnight. My 13 years of experience I have as a solo business owner has led me to this time in my career, and it will lead you to yours when it’s time. Whether you are 1 year in business or a seasoned CEO, let me tell you baby boo: you are right on time. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2ZsKHGR Raise your hand if you’ve ever gone to create another IGTV video, blog post, podcast episode, newsletter or social media post and the well was empty. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. *raises hand* >>Oh, buttercup, if you are building a business, it is not a matter of *IF* you will experience of a creative rut, but rather *WHEN* it will happen.<< I have been there before and I know I will be there again in the future, but I am less afraid of the creative ruts for one main reason: >>We experience God-given emotions to feel them all at 100%.<<
Friend, being in a creative rut is a gift because when you get back in your zone of creating, you will be totally lit up and excited! It is the universe giving you a gift to say, “Taste this now and don’t forget, because if you continue to show up it will get *really* good.” The question is: Will you continue showing up? Whenever I get into a creative rut, I continue showing up. But I discovered a trick to keep things interesting and show myself how good I really am. The trick is: >>Get out of a creative rut by giving yourself creative challenges.<< ![]() I can remember one instance a few years ago, when I had written over 2,000 blog posts on photography and truly did not think I had a SINGLE topic to write about that I hadn’t previously covered. I was shooting a wedding with an African American groom in a black tuxedo, with a fair, blonde hair and blue eyed bride in dressed in a white dress. *For any non-photographers reading–this is almost an IMPOSSIBLE lighting situation!* Instead of running for the hills, dying my hair jet black, running away to Paris and from now on going by the name of Amelié, I embraced the challenge. I figured out how to balance the light and go for an *epic* shot on the coast around noon. Not because I necessarily HAD to…. But because I *wanted* a creative challenge. Afterward, not only did my couple have an incredible experience with an amazing photo, but I had MORE content to serve my audience with. *Problem solved!* So friend, if you are in a creative rut, this is my advice to you: keep the content the same, but make it harder for yourself. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2P9Fa4e When I first started my blogging journey in 2006, it was a *hot* mess. I shared everything from advice for success and wedding day tips for new photographers to love notes to my husband and business partner JD. It may have been a little unorganized, but hey, if you scroll back far enough you’ll see the raw, open-hearted content that amassed hundreds of thousands of readers. I realized this week that I haven’t shared anything like that in awhile, because I’ve been so focused on the business tips, social media tricks, and mindset shifts you, my reader, have grown to expect and love. I debated sharing this video because, well, it’s just a short conversation with my mom. Then I stopped myself: it’s not “just” a conversation. This was a moment that—for years—I feared wouldn’t happen. She battled brain cancer for almost a decade. It had hid in her brain and made its way to her central nervous system, so nothing was left untouched. Her doctors gave up on treatment. …they said it was time to plan for her funeral (but we didn’t) …they said she wouldn’t be able to walk me down the aisle (but she did) …they said not to expect her to hold her grandchildren (but she does) You see, God has a funny way of making miracles come to life. Years later, here we are, on Instagram, as she totally pulls a “mom” and tells thousands of my followers that I’m special… All I can say is: Can I get an AMEN for miracles?! via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2L2lN7A As you are building a personal brand on social media, there is *HUGE* decision to be made: *Should you keep your personal + business accounts separate?* When I hear this question, I immediately go back to my homeschool days and want to make a pros and cons list. Y’all know we were all about making lists as kids! PROS of separating your accounts:
CONS of separating your accounts:
I’m going to deal it to you straight, buttercup: the answer is going to be different for everyone. >>If you are a personal brand like a singer, author, coach, or speaker you may want to keep your accounts together and let your audience get to know you >>For businesses with a more corporate structure such as product or a team of service providers, you would probably be better off separating your accounts ![]() >>At the end of the day, you should be creating as much content as possible as quickly as possible.<< If you’re feeling stressed about creating too much content with just one account, consider keeping your accounts combined. At the same time, if you’re only doing videos 2 or 3 times per week, there will be 4-5 days you’re not posting, which means your account going stagnant and it is hurting the algorithm. >>Adding a second account isn’t going to make social media any less stressful and you HAVE to show up every day is great to keep your content hot and your audience engaged.<< *I never suggest creating content at the cost of your personal wellbeing or self care.* So, my friend: should you separate your accounts? Ask yourself these questions:
And finally… Which option will build the audience your brand deserves? via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/30oZsaY I often hear entrepreneurs not posting because they are worried about not getting likes or wonder what people will say about their content… And I’m like, STOP THINKING + START DOING.
>>My hope for this post is to inspire you to never run out of ideas, save you TIME, and give you a well of content that allows you to talk ABOUT your business without directly SELLING your business.<< Let’s dive in! To plan out your Instagram posts, we talk about “categories” a lot when it comes to content creation in the Social Curator Community. It is recommended that you come up with 9-12 categories for your account. To keep it simple, Social Curator categories are the same every month. *Remember, these are to be used as a guide and reference point, so you can modify them so they best fit your brand/business/personality!* ![]() The Social Curator categories are:
In addition to these 7 caption categories, we often suggest mapping out photo categories for your brand as well–photos that showcase your life to pair with these captions. There is no “right or wrong,” but as an example here are my photo topics:
Now we have 7 caption categories and 7 photos that our audience can expect to see from us. From here, we can simply:
