How to Handle Bad Days As An Entrepreneur
10/28/2020
Last week, I drowned my laptop. *You know, just because I FELT like it.* In case you can’t read the sarcasm dripping from this post, I didn’t intentionally fry my laptop. Unfortunately, I put it in my purse and a water bottle leaked all over the main tool I use to run my business. It’s safe to say that was a pretty bad day. Have you ever had a day like that, friend? Maybe you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, spill your coffee, your plans fall through, or you destroy your computer… whatever it is, we all have bad days, especially as business owners. *In fact, I don’t believe you can even BE an entrepreneur without bad days.* However, last week when I mourned the death of my MacBook Pro, I realized I had a choice… >>On my worst day as an entrepreneur, I realized I get to CHOOSE my “hard.”<< ![]() Of course, it sucks to ruin a laptop… But everything is hard.
We were never guaranteed that running a business or chasing our dreams would be easy, but we are blessed to choose our “hard”, my friend. >>You will ALWAYS have to choose something “hard” because life isn’t easy. But will you choose the one that pushes you toward your goals or the one that keeps you stuck where you are?<< I could easily say that my day is ruined or I could choose to look at the bright side. I have a roof over my head, there’s water running out of my faucet, my family is healthy, and I have spare change in my car… Although it was a bad day, there is so much to be grateful for. On your worst day, what will you choose? ![]() For more mindset shifts like this one, download my FREE Mindset Makeover Workbook. As the Director of Photography for movies like The Girl in the Spider’s Web and Extinction, one might assume his days of guerilla filmmaking with a Canon 5D were far behind him. But Luque isn’t the type to let go of lessons learned, and those insights proved valuable during filming of the recently released thriller, Antebellum. Did I scare you?? >>Let’s *creep* it real: posting on social media for your business can be scarier than seeing a ghost on Halloween.<< But holidays are a GREAT way to relate to your followers, and you don’t have to go on a total witch hunt for thinking of content topics! Monthly TipsFirst, I select what holidays I’ll create content for the month (everything from Christmas to National Donut Day), and plan when I need to take photos to ensure my holiday-related posts are ready when the date arrives. Second, I add personal events to the calendar I want to share on social media. Things like birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, etc. It’s important for me to know, in advance, what personal aspects I’ll be sharing online to ensure I have photos ready to share. ![]() Lastly, I add business-related events to the calendar. Because social media is key to my marketing endeavors, it’s vital I have a strategy in place for how I’ll leverage it for business growth. *For example, if I have a product launch, sale, or webinar, I need to have my social content planned in advance for maximum effectiveness.* >>Keep in mind, if you have a pop-up shop, a new item to sell, or a flash sale planned, be sure to plan your social content around it in advance so you’re prepared for success!<< Weekly TipsEvery Sunday, I plan a week of social media posts. *This doesn’t mean the posts are written and the photos are ready, it’s just a plan of knowing what I’m doing for the week.* >>Creating a weekly social media plan makes posting SO much easier on days full of meetings, recording podcasts, and coaching business owners inside Social Curator.<< I also set aside time each day to engage with followers, so I add that to my calendar as well. *Pssst! Inside Social Curator, there is a social media calendar in the Bonus tab of your Dashboard. Feel free to print it out, add personal and business-related events, and use it to keep track of your engagements!* I’m cheering you on, Hustler, and I know you’re working hard… I hope these tips helped you work even SMARTER. ![]() Want even more tips on planning your social media content? 10/21/2020
In December 2019, I wrote a letter to myself as part of a journal exercise at a copywriting workshop I attended. The instructor took the letter and promised to mail it at some random point in the future. I got the letter. Nine months later. In this letter, I created a vision for who I would be on December 31, 2022. *I basically told myself what I needed to do in my business in 2019, to get where I wanted to go by 2022.* I’m sharing the letter with you, friend, because it’s vulnerable…and keeps me accountable to my dreams. A few things I need to remember from the letter:
*I’m not the only person to think this way, am I?* Maybe you feel the same. That’s good! 10/17/2020
Have you ever thought, âHashtags donât work for me⦠My engagement is still low. I must be using the wrong ones.â? If so, I need you to understand one crucial secret to awesome hashtags⦠>>Hashtags are for discoverability, NOT engagement.<< For example, if you and I were sitting on a crowded bus, and someone walked in wearing a neon sign around his neck, we would easily discover him, right? The neon sign helped catch our attention. Well friend, think of hashtags as neon signs. *Theyâll get you noticed on the crowded Instagram bus!* But understand this: just because we discovered a post, doesnât mean weâll engage with it. >>Getting someone to like, comment, or share your post without knowing you takes a lot of work.<< ![]() To continue our analogy, letâs say the person sitting on the crowded bus was wearing a neon sign (remember: the hashtag) that stated #NFLFOOTBALL. You and I might both be interested in the sign, but if we start talking to him (the same way weâd read his Instagram post), he might say things Iâm not interested in or donât like. On the other hand, you might LOVE his insights and want to talk back to him. Using this example, just because we both saw his neon sign, doesnât mean that weâd both talk back to him (AKA engage). You see, the secret to awesome hashtags is that there isnât a secret. >>The key is to use hashtags to get discovered, then create a post thatâs interesting, exciting, educational, humorous, or helpful. Thatâs what will help get the engagement you want!<< If youâre interested in crafting the perfect hashtag strategy but arenât sure where to start, you need my Hashtag Strategy Guide! In it, youâll learn the 4 types of hashtags you need to be using for your business, a space for you to brainstorm the right ones, and an additional video tutorial. The post The Secret to Awesome Hashtags appeared first on Jasmine Star. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/347DXQ9 I heard you. *No, I wasn’t peeping in your bedroom (ew!) or creeping on your phone call with your mom (booooring!).* I heard you on social media, duh! Recently, I’ve heard the number one thing people want when it comes to social media is *drumroll please*… more followers. So what’s stopping them?
>>If you’re like these business owners and want more followers, then it’s time to take a look in the mirror and shift your strategy because what got you here won’t get you there.<< Albert Einstein defined insanity as: doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. If what you’re doing now isn’t working, then let’s talk about what is! Here are 3 steps to get more social media followers (WITHOUT paying for ads). Step 1: Understand Why People Follow You In The First PlaceThe vast majority of those reading this post right now have at least a few social media followers. So ask yourself: why do random strangers follow you in the first place?
Write the answer(s) down on a piece of paper or the Notes app in your phone, and then move on to Step 2. ![]() Step 2: Keep it Simple, Less is MoreIf you understand why people follow you in the first place and double-down on that, you will probably realize: less is more. >>There are Social Curator members who are going farther with 100 followers than those with 1,000.<< Because friend, if you focus on what you don’t have, it will never be enough! Focus on the followers you DO have and your tribe will grow without you even trying. Step 3: Share More of Your WhySimon Sinek said, “People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it.” >>Studies have shown that the majority of millennial shoppers want to buy from a business with a cause or purpose, so why not showcase yours?<< Whether it’s representing other women of color in a predominantly white industry or making a better life for your kids, share more of why you do what you do and you will gain more followers who stand behind that mission, too. There you have it, friend: 3 steps to get more social media followers without paying for ads! If you know why people are following you in the first place, you realize that less is more, and you know you need to share more of your why… that leads to engagement, which leads to more followers, and eventually more customers. ![]() If you’d like to learn more about how I market my business on social media to attract more paying customers to my profile, download my free Instagram Marketing Guide.
