Living Among What’s Left Behind is a project that explores two deeply worrying narratives and combines them into one extremely important story. “The experience of walking on the top of the floating trash in the Pasig River was shocking,” says Portuguese photojournalist, Mario Cruz. Read on to learn six ways to plan and get organized for your brand photoshoot so you can show up confidently on camera! 1. Choose OutfitsPick a few outfits that show the different sides of you, from casual, to workout, to professional attire. >>Posting pictures of the real you will create relatability which will spark conversations and create opportunities to build relationships.<< 2. Select PropsChoose several props that relate to your business and also give a lifestyle spin to your photoshoot. This could be anything from a laptop, cell phone, notebook, pen, or even tools of your trade, like a paint brush, camera, or dog leash. >>When choosing your props, make sure they are a visual representation of you and your business.<< 3. Gather Ideas*Hellooooo, Pinterest!* Creating a mood board will help gather the vibe, editing style, poses, and even location of what you’re hoping to capture. Have this board available during your photoshoot or send it to your photographer ahead of time so both of you are on the same page. ![]() 4. Get InspiredLook at your favorite accounts on Instagram for inspiration to help when it comes time to execute your photoshoot. Try creating various collections of poses, backdrops, and lighting based on your personality and business. *Tip: Don’t forget to save these photos by tapping on the flag icon on the bottom right hand side of the post so they are just a click away come photoshoot time!* 5. Choose Your PhotographerThis is the bread and butter of this entire process…and my favorite part! I like to start by searching Instagram hashtags based on where the photos will take place. Looking through photos and seeing different styles and editing really helps to select a photographer. *BUT*, you don’t need a professional photographer for every photoshoot! >>The best camera you have is the one that’s on you.<< You can take a lot of your own photos from your phone by simply finding natural, soft light and setting a self-timer! 6. Use photosAfter all of your hard work planning out the photoshoot, don’t forget to actually USE the photos! Post 2-3 branded photos each week to infuse your personality into your account and get followers excited to know you better! >>The biggest goal of a brand photoshoot is to create content so people will STOP scrolling and START double tapping, commenting, and saving your photos.<< Friend, I hope these ideas helped spark some excitement to start planning your own photoshoot! I’d love to see how you use these photos to create a brand extension for your business on social media! As always, if you’re needing some more guidance, I got you, boo! While I’m flattered that people value my opinion enough to ask me the hard questions, here’s the reality, boo boo: >>We are ALL going through this time of uncertainty together. I have just as much (in)experience with this as you do!<< But because I love you *and because I’ve got some time on my hands…#socialdistancing*, I’ll tell you what I DO know. Right now is a very interesting time to have a business. ![]() In the midst of the unknown, I am seeing two types of entrepreneurs:
Let me just say that BOTH of these responses are OK! Your feelings are valid because this situation is poking all of the pressure points for so many of us! Regardless of what category you’re in, it’s time to dig deep and ask yourself what you can do now to get to where you want to go. When this pandemic is over, your business may not look like it did a few weeks ago. Being adaptable to the reality of the situation and making changes as necessary is crucial for entrepreneurs everywhere. >>Don’t let 2, 4, or 6 weeks ruin what took 2, 4, or 6 years to build.<< Right now, while we’re all hunkered down in our homes for who knows how long, cling to the truth that we CAN get through this, and we WILL get through this. Why? Because we are the crazy ones. >>While everyone else is crumbling under the pressure that comes with uncertainty, we see this time as an opportunity.<< And you know what we do with opportunities? We RUN with them. So wash your hands, stay healthy, and run like the wind, boo. Boo boo, can I fill you in on a secret that you might already know? >>Stories are the fastest growing feature on Instagram.<< *I know, I know, itâs not really a secret, but I just HAD to share it with you!* I personally believe that Stories are currently the most powerful feature on Instagram. Why do I believe this? Well, the proof is in the pudding. And in this case, the proof is in my own experience of posting on Stories! >>Instagram Stories enhance business visibility and personal relatability, which are both critical aspects of being a successful entrepreneur.<< Stories are another great way to get followers to know, like, and trust you. Now Buttercup, Iâm not suggesting that you need to stop focusing on your IG feed and only put time and energy into posting to Stories everyday. No, no, no. In order to succeed, youâll need to implement BOTH into your social media plan. And because Iâm in the business of helping you reach that success, I wanted to share with you some actionable steps that you can take to show up daily on Stories to drive new followers and customers. Here are my top four Instagram Story topics that have made an impact on my âgram game: Behind-the-scenesSometimes itâs nice to have a little reminder that weâre all human, right? People want to know who theyâre investing their time, energy, and money into, and showing the âreal youâ is a powerful way to do just that. Remind people that what they see on your feed might be beautiful, but youâre still a real person doing everyday things behind-the-scenes. ![]() InteractionInteraction is key to getting new followers on Instagram. You can do so by incorporating engagement tools on your Stories (i.e. polls, questions, sliders). These tools make people feel like they have a voice in your life and that you care about their opinions. Interaction leads to more interaction. This means that when the Instagram algorithm notices interaction by certain followers on your Stories, your posts and Stories are going to be shown to more people. LifestyleSimilarly to going behind-the-scenes in your business, showing aspects of your daily life helps with the relatability factor. When you show more of your life outside of your business, it makes a customer more inclined to support youâ¦even if what youâre showing doesnât directly relate to your business. Allow people to get to know you better by showing them who you areâ¦whether thatâs revealing your home decor style, sharing your go-to order at your favorite coffee shop, or talking about the best local boutique where you just bought some killer wedges. Exciting wins/testimonialsBoo, it is 100% acceptable to brag yourself up a bit if itâs all in the name of helping other people! Showing how youâve been able to help others will immediately get people interested in what you have to offer. FOMO (âfear of missing outâ) is on your side with this one! When people hear about all of the happy customers you have while theyâre searching for a solution that you offer, testimonials will do the work for you in gaining even more customers. Friend, Iâm all about working smarter, not harder. These four topics have made it EASY to show up on Stories, which has led to an increase in followers and customers. >>Bottom line: showing up on Stories will up your game on the âgram.<< I believe that youâre fully capable of going out and conquering the Instagram Story world, but if youâre still looking for a bit more support, Iâve got just the thing for you!
