This year, I’m adding another title to my resumè. >>I’m Jasmine Star: photographer, business strategist, and now, a proud used-to-be’r.<< Let me explain… When Social Curator was created, our dream was to create a community of people that supported, showed up, and helped one another. Mission accomplished. >>Social Curator is made up of a bunch of rockstar do-ers. They’re hustlers, dreamers, and go-getters.<< But now, I have a new dream. In 2020, I want every member on the inside of Social Curator to be part of the used-to-be club. To be eligible to join this group, participants must admit the following:
…but not anymore. ![]() As a used-to-be’r, I’m able to open up about stuff I never wanted to talk about that all focused around one thing: FAILURE. >>The fear of failure held me back from reaching my full potential.<< That was then…Who I used to be. This is now…I’m letting go of the 2019 trash to embrace the 2020 trailblazing I’m going to do. I want to double my business this year, and in order to do that, I must become a different business person. I want you to do the same. The oath to become a used-to-be’r is really pretty simple: >>Who I used to be is not the person who is getting me where I want to go.<< Boo boo, welcome to the club. Ahoy, matey! Avast ye! *That’s pirate talk for: Hello, pay attention!…Trust me, you’ll understand what I mean in a sec.* >>Over the years, I’ve consistently been able to double my business. Now, I want to help you do the same.<< The first step to growing your business is finding customers. *Actually, the VERY first step is to identify who your ideal customer is. If you need some help figuring that out, go >>HERE!<<* Once you have your ideal client profile mapped out, it’s time to do the digging to find them! *But you don’t have to be a pirate to dig up this buried treasure!* >>In fact, the treasure (AKA your dream customers) can be found right at your fingertips.<< Here’s a four-step pathway to dig up the gold (and double your business) on Instagram: 1. Hashtags
Hashtags are a great way to find people to connect with. Start by searching local hashtags or ones based on your dream customer’s interests. Really put yourself into their shoes and think about what they are looking for on the ‘gram. 2. Posts
Follow these hashtags to find posts from your ideal client. Connect with them by leaving a comment that’s more than four words. This not only pleases the algorithm, but shows that you are being genuine. ![]() 3. Stories
Now that you’ve found accounts and started engaging, respond to their Instagram Stories by answering questions, completing polls, reacting with emojis, etc. Any response to someone’s stories becomes a direct message, which leads to the final step… 4. Direct Message (DM)
DMs are a great place to build trust through one-on-one conversation. Before focusing on doing this with an ideal client, try commenting on 3-5 of their posts and responding to their stories for one week prior to sending a DM. Doing so will give you something more specific to talk about, and they will be more inclined to reply because you’re a familiar name. Take the time to develop REAL connections. >>Connections turn into trust, then conversations, then conversions.<< It’s not enough to simply hope that customers are going to find you. YOU have to find customers, not hope for them. But if you’re willing to do the work, you won’t have to walk the plank! Follow these steps and you’ll be digging up the gold in no time, Buttercup! *Or should I say, Buccaneer?!* The post 4 Steps to Find Your Dream Customer on Instagram appeared first on Jasmine Star. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2GAIQEZ Lessons Ive Learned As A Business Owner

Failure. It’s not a hot topic to talk about, and it certainly isn’t easy to admit. Failure was my biggest fear. I used to define my life based on successes and failures. But then I had a mindset shift. I realized that failures were just lessons in disguise, and if you look at each experience (good or bad) as a lesson, you’ll get MUCH more out of it than chalking it up to a success or failure. With this simple shift, I’m able to pursue my passion and, like Lewis said, put myself out there again and again, no matter the result. Here’s a candid look at my three greatest business Lesson #1: Don’t run the risk of getting in over your head
Let’s rewind back to 2016, when I held Path to Profitability, a live event focused on how to build a brand and market it on social media, which would eventually turn into an online course. On the outside, things looked super successful and promising:
In reality, I was drowning in dollar signs because I spared no expense:
As this was going on, big things were also happening in my personal life:
I was in WAY over my head. The perfect storm had happened. I was spending more while cutting down my revenue sources. I was drowning. But I kept swimming. My stubbornness may have gotten us into this situation, but it was also what got us out of it. I wasn’t willing to give up on my dreams. We made it through (and never went into debt in the process)! What I learned: the first time you try something new, it doesn’t have to be perfect. *Heck, it barely has to be good!* I could’ve cut my costs by ⅔ if I just took the bare minimum and made it work. I would’ve learned more having spent much less trying to make it perfect. ![]() Lesson #2: Listen to others
Social Curator was first launched in July of 2017, and then again in October of that year. With this brand-new business venture, I wasn’t focusing on numbers. Instead, I wanted to focus on how to best serve our members. On the outside, we were striving:
In reality, I had missed the point:
The biggest wakeup call came in January of 2018, when I was told that our numbers were lower than when we started. The team suggested that we start a Facebook group to create a community between members. For six months, I said no. I thought of Facebook as a negative scene where people go to bring others down, and I didn’t want that for our members. When I finally got over my ego and listened to the team, I witnessed a drastic change. Members had a safe space to connect, share success stories, and ask for advice.
The Facebook group revolutionized Social Curator. What I learned: it ain’t about you, boo. It wasn’t about me. It was that I wasn’t serving members to my highest potential. Just because I didn’t like the idea of a Facebook group didn’t mean that it didn’t have the capacity to be good. >>As entrepreneurs, we have to do things we don’t want in order to get where we want to go.<< Lesson #3: Set your priorities
When I started my photography business back in 2007, I knew NOTHING about how to run a business. On the outside, I was putting in the work:
In reality, my priorities were out of whack:
But then I got the call that changed everything. My friend discovered that her husband had a brain tumor and wasn’t expected to live. I was in shock because we were the same age. We even got married in the same month. That phone call made me realize that I owed my family an apology for prioritizing my business over them. NOTHING is more important than family. What I learned: setting priorities sets parameters. Although I still wanted to grow my business, I needed to prioritize my life in order to set parameters on what I said yes or no to. This allowed my business and personal life to flourish. *Phew! That was long-winded, even for me!* Long story short, I could’ve looked at each one of these experiences as a failure, and given up. Instead, I’m CHOOSING to look at them as lessons learned. By doing so, I’m turning “failures” into success!
So boo boo, if you’ve been knocked down a time or two (like me), I encourage you to get up, wipe off the dust, and keep on keepin’ on! Though creatives have focus their endeavors to social and virtual media, paper product remains the dominant presentation medium for marketers and creatives. Despite consistent declarations in the news that “print is dead,” a 2019 report by PG Paper indicates that world paper consumption has actually risen by 2.5% over the last four years. Buttercup, can I ask you a question? Do you meal prep? In case you’re not familiar with the term, meal prepping is a way to reduce daily tasks in the kitchen by doing all of the preparations ahead of time. Die hard meal preppers even get their whole week of meals prepped in ONE sitting! No, I am NOT one of those people. *Heck, I’m rarely even in the kitchen! Shoutout to my husband JD!* But I do apply this efficiency method in other places of my life…specifically in my business. It’s called batch working. >>Batch working is simply putting similar tasks together to increase efficiency and decrease redundancy.<< A great example for batch working is planning social media content (for the week, month, etc.). So how is meal prepping similar to batch working? Let’s take a look at how to batch work social media content for your business in a way that meal preppers batch work their kitchen tasks: Make a planMeal Preppers:

Mission accomplished! *OK, so maybe neither of these processes are that simple, but isn’t it crazy how similar they are?!* I may not be a master in meal prepping (or even in the kitchen), but it’s easy to see that batching social media content can save a lot of time…and I’m all about that! >>Having a plan prevents me from feeling overwhelmed, and batch working is a way to match my BIG ambitions with actions.<< Now, I have to admit that I’m no die hard batch worker by any means.
Someday, I hope to have my life together enough to be able to batch ALL of my content, but for right now I’m doing what I can. And you can too, boo boo! Let’s take baby steps together, and soon, we’ll be batch working pros! If there’s one thing that the Southeast United States is famous for, it’s the sunsets. Perhaps only the Pacific Coast has more spectacular dusk views, and photographers looking for that magic moment would be hard pressed to find a region more chock full of amazing places to capture a dazzling image. Still, there are some […] The post Ten Great Southern Sunsets appeared first on Resource. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2RjXhUb By simply saying YES to Social Curator, you took a HUGE step toward growth in your business. *Let me just take a second to CLAP THAT UP, my friend!* But maybe that initial excitement was followed by some doubts…
*Boo boo, I gotchu! I completely understand!* Those feelings are absolutely warranted…but what is the best way to push past doubt and overwhelm? By taking action. Even just doing ONE thing will push you closer towards achieving your goals. *And if you’re anything like me, then I know you’ve got your sights set on some BIG goals, hustler!* No matter how you’re feeling right now, know that I’m proud of you, we’re so happy you’re here, and we will help you every step of the way. Speaking of steps, here is a list of 5 action steps you can take to maximize your membership this month…and in month’s to come! ![]() 1. Join the Facebook group
This is quite honestly where the magic happens. This community is made up of people just like you who are ready to help, support, and guide you on this journey. This is also the platform used for group coaching! 2. Take the Social Curator quiz
This quick (and fun) quiz helps you identify what Social Curator Stage you’re in. Not only will you know what action steps to take NOW based on your stage, but you’ll also know what one thing to do according to each month’s Action Plan. 3. Complete the workbooks
Each monthly Action Plan includes a workbook centered around accountability, strategy, and consistency. Going through each Action Plan and completing the workbooks will pave a clear path to your success! 4. Download captions & photos
Each issue contains 30+ lifestyle photos, 5 IG Story templates, and 30 caption prompts…but don’t let these numbers overwhelm you! You may not be in a place to implement the captions or photos into your social media planning for the month that you sign up, and THAT’S OK! If that is the case, feel free to use this content as filler in the months to come, or get one step ahead and use this content to start planning out posts for next month! 5. Show up to member events
Remember my mantra for 2020? >>SHOW UP ‘TIL YOU BLOW UP!<< Each month, you’ll have access to group coaching, Productivity Power Hour (PPH), a Momentum Booster, and MORE, all inside the Facebook group! Show up to as many of these events as you can because we’ve got GREAT things planned this year! Now, before you look at this list and allow the overwhelm to creep in, let me remind you: >>There is NO RIGHT WAY of using Social Curator. There is just YOUR WAY.<< My dream is for every Curator to implement just ONE PERCENT of each issue, every month. Why just 1%? >>If you implement just ONE PERCENT of an issue each month, you will have changed your social media marketing by 12% at the end of the year. And 12% is a MASSIVE change!!!<< Social Curator isn’t about magical solutions. It’s not about quick fixes. It’s just about showing up every month and making a 1% percent change.
My one wish is that you take what you can—however little that might be—and make magic with it. The post How To Maximize Your New Social Curator Membership appeared first on Jasmine Star. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2TN1hht How I Set My 2020 Goals
1/22/2020
You know how during the World Cup, the announcer says “goal” like “GOOOOOOOAL!!!!”? *Well friend, that’s how I’m feeling about 2020.* Recently, my business partner (AKA my husband) and I spent the weekend writing down our 2020 goals as a way to reflect on 2019 and propel into the new year with a GOOOOOOOAL-kicking plan! >>Year after year, I’ve been able to double my business. This is because I’ve set goals and taken action.<< If I remain stagnant and continue doing the same actions, I’d expect to see the same results. *But this girl isn’t sitting still in her business!* >>If my actions don’t map my aspirations, I get NOTHING.<< So, every year, we create a plan that is a culmination of action-taking, dream-making ideas that will provide a foundation for the year ahead, using these five goal-setting steps: 1. Journal
How have things transitioned over the past year? If you want some free therapy, grab a pen and start writing in a journal. Trust me, being able to brain dump and getting everything down on paper reaches a whole new level of catharsis. Giving yourself the ability to have mental clarity will open your mind to a clean slate that the new year provides. 2. 2019 wins
What do you want to do more of in 2020? Recognize what worked well for you this past year. *And don’t forget to celebrate those wins, Buttercup!* If you don’t look back and think about what you’ve accomplished, you’ll always feel like you’re behind. ![]() 3. 2019 lessons
What didn’t work so well last year? Note that this step ISN’T called 2019 mistakes. Rather, these are valuable lessons that offer pivotal opportunities. If you vow to make a change, then you’ve learned (and acted upon) your lesson. 4. 2020 goals
What do you want to achieve? Goals are outcome-based, meaning they require action to reach a desired destination… and that takes work. But, that shouldn’t stop you from shooting for the stars! >>Write down your goals as if success is a foregone conclusion as soon as your pen hits the paper.<< 5. 2020 intentions
How do you want to be? Intentions describe the way you want to feel. Your intentions must be in alignment with your goals. If in the process of reaching goals, you’re unhappy, stressed, or overwhelmed, then what’s the point? Now it’s your turn, boo boo. Get a piece of paper and write out these five steps. Then take some time to list a few points for each step that maps out how you will take ACTION in 2020. >>When you take action (whether it’s messy, scary, right, wrong, or anything in between), one of two things will happen: you will learn what NOT to do in the future, or you will learn what to do AGAIN in the future.<< You have what it takes to reach your goals. Any don’t worry…when you’re out on the field kicking those GOOOOOOOALS, I’ll be rooting for you in the stands like a crazy person! Why? Because I believe in you and your potential to achieve success! All YOU have to do is believe in yourself…and take action! The post How I Set My 2020 Goals appeared first on Jasmine Star. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2Ri8Jja |
