Each year, my good friend and marketing guru, Amy Porterfield, hosts an event in San Diego called the Entrepreneur Experience. *Y’all it’s SO much fun… Amy knows how to party and I make great mixed drinks! ;)* I was fortunate enough to take the stage at this event and speak to a room of budding entrepreneurs on how their Instagram account can help build their brand. Read on to learn more about my Instagram critiques, and be sure to watch all three corresponding videos so you can get the full Experience! *See what I did there?!* How to Stop Someone Scrolling Past Your PostsWe all want to have real, authentic conversations on Instagram, so what’s stopping us? Answer: our posts actually have to get seen and READ. You may be worried about why people aren’t engaging with your posts, but the problem may be that they aren’t reaching the point of the post where you ask them to engage. Solution: start each post with a hook. >>A good copywriting hook at the beginning of your post gets followers to the call-to-action at the end.<< Here are the top three hooks that will get readers to not only stop scrolling, but click “read more”:
The main takeaway is this: a good call-to-action is only as effective as the hook. Check out the video below so you can see how small caption changes can make a HUGE difference. What time should you post on IG + how often?I’ve got good news and bad news, boo boo.
However, I will say this: >>Consistency leads to growth.<< Because of the algorithm, engagement determines what is seen. Studies have shown that only 4% of your audience is seeing your posts, but if you consistently get that audience to engage, your reach will continue to grow. If you’re willing to put in the work and make the commitment to post every day, there is a higher likelihood that your posts will be seen. Watch this video to learn the best posting times for YOU. Instagram Power Punch Q+AHold on tight, Buttercup! I’m about to fly through some of the questions that were asked as I wrapped up my session at the Entrepreneur Experience. I hope these are helpful to you! What are your thoughts on third party planning apps? I love them for the planning component. However, I am not an advocate for automatic posting. I have found that when I use a third party app to post my content, I don’t get as much organic reach. What’s your advice on posting on your feed vs stories? Use both as much as possible! At the beginning of the month, have a plan mapped out so you don’t feel overwhelmed or pressured in the moment. How can I begin helpful conversations in a direct message? Lead with value. If your value exceeds the character limit of a direct message, go the extra step and create a shareable PDF or lead page. Be creative! Tune into this video for more Q + A about the latest Instagram trends and engagement inspiration! What did you think of this Instagram critique, friend? No, I’m not talking about having one too many dirty martinis or recovering after a rough night’s sleep. *That’s another story completely.* I’m talking about facing the big one-eyed monster (or one-“I” monster): INSTAGRAM. I’m no mind reader, but I’m pretty sure you’ve struggled with Instagram a time or two. We all have, Buttercup. I’m right there with you! I know the struggle of followers not talking back to you, so how about we change that today? Allow me to lay the framework for how to make it happen – through engagement, stories, and a boss bio. *Be sure to watch all three videos for even more struggle-ending, monster-defeating tips!* Instagram EngagementIn order to optimize your account for engagement, remember this: >>Instagram relies on *behavior* to determine who is shown your posts.<< If a follower previously engaged with your content, there’s a higher likelihood of them seeing another post from you. This is why it’s SO important to get people to engage. It increases the chances of them seeing even more of your posts! Bottom line: if your followers aren’t liking, commenting, archiving, or sharing your stuff, then your content will not get the views that it deserves. Check out the video below to learn about the three main behavioral factors that Instagram uses to determine what gets seen. Instagram StoriesUtilizing stories can be profoundly powerful for your business. They capture a different side to the monstrous app, proving that followers don’t just want to see the “pretty” moments that are filling their feed. >>Instagram stories reveal the real, the raw, and the #nofilter moments that empower your brand to build trust and authenticity.<< Offering yet another way to harbor engagement, IG stories are a great way to connect with followers and to ensure your visibility on their page, through discovery tools (location, hashtag, mention) and engagement tools (poll, question, slider). Watch this video for a flash fire Q+A session with a group of local business owners at Kilroy Realty’s One Paseo, where we hone in on more hot engagement topics! Instagram BioYou’ve worked your little booty off trying to get people to engage with you. The one-“I” monster (AKA Instagram) doesn’t seem so scary anymore. You’ve shown up every day. You researched hashtags. You’re a story-posting fool. But are you providing a bio to ensure that followers and non-followers know who you are? Use this checklist to make sure: 1. Title
2. Benefits
3. Audience
4. Contact information

“I failed.” For over a decade, that was a lie I told myself if a desired outcome wasn’t met.
For way too long, I had all these rules. I only looked at ventures as a failure or a success. It wasn’t until the past few years with some guidance from my mentor that I was able to shift my perspective into believing that there is no such thing as failing. No more “ifs”. No more lies. >>If we continue to measure our life in failures or successes, we’re always selling ourselves short and minimizing our growth potential.<< *Boo boo, if you feel like a failure, then keep on reading, because I’m about to knock some sense into that pretty little head of yours!* If you’d like to move forward in growing your business, I encourage you to first take a step back. Look at your previous experiences and think about what you’ve learned from them. >>Instead of focusing purely on the outcome, reflect on the journey that got you here.<<
The only way to answer these questions is by taking action. *Congratulations my friend, you’ve already done that!* You are rare. You can answer the questions that many other people can’t because they won’t take action. Instead, they’ll stay stuck and stay scared. You are brave. You had the courage to go out and do/try/learn…no matter what happened. You are amazing. You are stronger, wiser, and better now because of it. If your business needs a momentum boost to rebuild excitement after a *non*-failed attempt, cling to this truth: >>The lessons learned from the action you took and the bravery that you exemplified while doing it will take you FAR.<< Believe in yourself and you’ve already succeeded. No matter the outcome. The post Succeeding As A Business Owner appeared first on Jasmine Star. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/33fc30Z How To Become An Influencer
11/22/2019
Boo boo, if you give me two minutes, I’ll give you my two cents on how to grow your audience.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being an influencer, but I’ve noticed that so many people have the wrong mindset on how to get there. Here’s where I flip the script: being an influencer is not about getting more people interested in you. >>Your growth is directly proportional to how interested you are in your followers.<< Your growth will explode when:
So how can you achieve this, Buttercup? Show up EVERYDAY – Consistency is key. Provide value – Give great advice, tell stories, be authentically YOU. Connect with each follower – EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. *Yep, you read that right. I didn’t stutter!* Respond to every single comment and DM – Take the time to give back to those that reached out to you. Keep the conversation going! Send 20 DMs each day – Explore other accounts and reach out to them. Search/connect with people using hashtags – Hashtags are like a gold mine. Dig it up, baby! Create stories that drive engagement everyday – Use polls, quizzes, sliders, anything you can that makes it easy for your audience to communicate with you. Provide opt-ins – Take things one step further for people who want to have more information. My friend, I’ve given you my advice on how to become an influencer, but let me fill you in on a little secret: >>Your current followers will help you reach influencer status if you pour into them.<< Believe it or not, the tribe you already have standing in your corner is far more important than the potential followers you could get. Start caring, giving, and finding ways to help. Give ‘em everything you got. Make an impact on people’s lives. After all, isn’t that what being an influencer is all about? I know the feeling of getting my business off the ground without two pennies to rub together. Tryna make a dolla outta 15 cents seems impossible, right? Oh boo boo, I know this all too well. I’ve been there, too. *But* I’m living proof you can create a world-wide brand by simply SHOWING UP. This was the pep talk that I gave to the crowd inside A BREWERY. *Perfect location for a stressful subject, am I right?!* Pour yourself a drink and soak up these brand building topics! How can I continue to monetize my following?I’ll follow this question by asking another question: How do you continue to keep content interesting and fresh? By making things harder for yourself as a point of differentiation. Double down on creating content that is unique and innovative. This will not only benefit your followers to prove that you’re an authority, but it will also keep you hungry. How do you determine the best hashtags?First of all, if it’s easy for you to find your hashtags, you’re choosing the wrong ones. Put yourself in the shoes of your dream customer and ask yourself what hashtags they are using or searching for. It’s important for hashtags to reflect what’s in the photo, so take the time to build out segments of hashtags for certain categories of posts. What platform is the best to post on?I’m going to go all Gary Vee style and tell you ALL OF THEM, boo boo. One piece of content, posted at staggered times, formatted specifically for the user experience on any given platform will work wonders for your brand. You want to be able to speak to ALL members of your audience by giving them content in many different formats! What 3 apps do you recommend using to post on social? To be completely honest, I prefer to post in real time because the algorithm favors organic posting. If you have the time to post in real time, you’ll be rewarded for it. That being said, schedulers like Later, Plann, and Planoly are useful tools, so feel free to use them to their full potential. How do you not take away from your personal time while running a business?I wake up at 4:30AM every day. Not because I hate sleep, but because I need time to myself to pray, read, meditate, and complete my morning routine. Then, I get down to business. My husband understands that when it’s working hours, I am working. I may work A LOT, but when that clock hits 6:00PM, my time is devoted to us. What is one thing you learned from Gary Vaynerchuk?I literally paid Gary Vee for 10 minutes of his time to hear this advice: Shut up, do the work, serve people again and again and again. That lesson was worth every penny. Friend, I hope these answers helped you in some way! I know that building a brand is scary and hard, but you most certainly are not alone in this. That’s why I’ve got your back, pushing you to believe that a seemingly crazy dream can blossom into a life-changing opportunity. If you’d like to hear more pep talks like this one, I go live on Instagram every Tuesday for Coffee & Conversations and every Wednesday on Facebook for my weekly Ask Me Anything sessions, so pour yourself another drink and I’ll see you there to answer your burning business q’s *live*! The post Brand Building Basics appeared first on Jasmine Star. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 https://ift.tt/2O6z562 Can you count on at least one hand the number of TERRIBLE Facebook groups you’ve been a part of? Oh friend, you know the groups I’m talking about: filled with mean, judgmental, and snarky comments within an overwhelming and overcrowded space? *Some online spaces feel like walking into a crowded nightclub on a Friday night, you know what I’m saying?* My fingers are popping up as I count too, boo boo! Unfortunately there are quite a few bad Facebook groups out there. Pressing “unfollow” has never been easier! #sorrynotsorry Here’s what a Social Curator asked me about building a Facebook group for her membership that emphasized the community aspect while avoiding the negative outcome I just described: Although I was hesitant about it at first because I didn’t want to invite any unwelcome negativity into my life, the Social Curator Facebook group was created as a way for members to have a virtual space to come together as a community. And guess what, friend? The Facebook group has been a total game changer for our membership.. Believe me, it didn’t happen overnight. We’re currently at about 6,500 members, but it has taken time to get where we are today. >>Building a membership community is a marathon, not a sprint!<< *Rome wasn’t built in a day, okaaaay?!* I spent about two weeks envisioning, imagining, and dreaming up the ideal Facebook group. That may seem excessive, but I took all the time I needed to be completely satisfied with this particular platform. Now that we’ve acquired a substantial amount of members, I can look back and say that there are three main strategies to building a community while avoiding the negativity and overwhelm in groups that make us all cringe. 1. Establish cultureThe most important part of creating a business is establishing a culture. The same is true for a membership community. Determining a culture right out of the gate will help to lay the groundwork for success. 2. Plan contentCreating content ahead of time will avoid a free-for-all society. By providing the bones of the group, you also offer stability and structure, so members know what to expect. And when the time comes to call for reinforcements… 3. Have moderatorsUtilizing people to act as your eyes and ears will be tremendously beneficial for the group. These overseers will be available to address certain issues and cut off any unwanted behavior, preventing the bad reputation that so many groups receive. >>When it comes to creating Facebook groups, it’s all about strategy, not tactics.<< No gimmicks, just authenticity. It’s not a numbers game. *Never has been, never will be.* A membership community is exactly that: community. By taking the time, putting in the effort, and being proactive, you can build a space that will grow and flourish. One of my favorite questions I often receive is, “What is it like to work with your husband?” Friend, I’m sure you know by now that JD’s the conductor to this party train! I would go off the tracks without him. I am #blessed with a partner who believes wholeheartedly in me, both in our personal and business lives! We dream with each other, push each other, support each other, and there’s no one else I’d rather do life with. I had the most amazing opportunity to get interviewed for my podcast with my wonderful husband and business partner by none other than THE Amy Porterfield! Get ready for some straight up vulnerability, *gossip magazine Q+A style, of course*, because you’re about to hear it all! Amy: How did you two meet?
Amy: Jasmine, did you like him right away?
Amy: What does your life look like as business partners?
Amy: What does your personal life look like together?
Amy: What is your absolute favorite thing about each other?
Amy: Of course, now I need to ask, what is something that the other does that drives you crazy?
See boo boo, I told you that we spilled the tea on each other! Married life as business partners isn’t perfect, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. After receiving the third degree from Amy, she switched gears and asked us a few questions from our listening audience. Catch our responses and candid reactions in the full video below! For the longest time, that’s all I heard after posting on social media or sending a newsletter. I put so much time and effort into saying what I thought everyone wanted to hear. And then…nothing. Finally, I discovered a method that changed everything. I found a way to make those crickets disappear, and I replaced them with genuine conversations with people, which is music to my ears. Oh friend, do you want to know what changed it all for me when it comes to getting social media engagement? >>The game changer was putting everybody aside and just talking to *one* person.<< *And you know what?* It not only relieved pressure, but it made it easier to know what to say. I envisioned every detail about this one fictitious person that I was virtually speaking to:
Whenever I sit down to create content, I think about my ideal client avatar, Elle. Writing a blog post feels like I’m writing her a letter. Putting together a newsletter feels as though I’m sending her a note. Posting on social media feels like I’m typing a text message to Elle. >>It’s much easier to connect in a one-on-one conversation than speaking to a crowd.<< Instead of making some important speech, I make a dialogue. I ask myself very specific questions in order to craft the perfect message:
The more I wrote to one particular person, the easier it became, and the more I attracted others just like Elle. Tens of thousands, then hundreds of thousands of people started listening to what I was saying. >>I stopped caring about what everybody thought and focused solely on one person, which in turn appealed to others.<< Those moments of feeling frustrated and overwhelmed, wondering if I was just speaking into a void and feeling that nobody was paying attention are long gone. *Hollaaaaa, no more crickets!* And it’s all because I figured out how to have a conversation with one person. >>Speak to one, appeal to many.<< Friend, do you know that feeling of hearing crickets all too well? Do you feel like nobody is listening? Good news, Buttercup. The video below walks you through how to use the right words to get your followers talking back to you. As he began asking me about creating community online, I found myself spitting my Truth. *Literally, I had to wipe my mouth a few times. Ooops!* I didnât realize there were such deep emotions hiding just under the surface of my Instagram photos, Facebook updates, and YouTube videos. This is a RANT: I make no apologies. Deal with it, boo. You see, there will be people who have an opinion about me, and there will be people who do not like me. Those people will have opinions and dislike me, whether Iâm 50% myself or 100% myself. >>At the end of the day, my only objective is to be completely myself. If you donât like it, Iâve learned to accept that.<< This objective will result in one of two ways. I will either attract you into my orbit or repel you. *Dear haters, if you donât want what Iâve got, you know where the door is. Byyyyyyye Felicia* See, Buttercup, I told you I get fired up about this! #sorrynotsorry I am here to serve small groups of people who want to understand me. These are the people who incite change and create alliances. These people believe in an idea so much that theyâre willing to show up no matter what. These people are my Internet homies. >>Iâve never been a popular girl (nor do I aspire to be), but I am proud of creating a space online where people are seen. Like, truly SEEN.<< Friend, I see you. I might be a stranger on the Internet, but if I met you in real life Iâd shake your shoulders and ask what you want to do. *â¦And then Iâd want to help you get there.* My purpose is to empower others to believe that their impossible dreams are possible, no matter how crazy they may seem. The only way I can make them believe this is by showing up, over and over again. After all, weâre all in this together, arenât we? >>In a time when weâre more disconnected than ever before, thereâs a real opportunity to create community on the Internet. << My reasoning is simple: I give the type of engagement that I want to receive. When I show up for people, they show up for me. And hereâs the real talk: Iâm no one special. YOU can do the same. Show up for others. Give more than you get. Help without expectation. Respond to comments. Hold the door open. Buy coffee for the person behind you in line. Be a nice human. That? That is what building a community is all about.
