Casey Neistat’s got a problem. Since he began his mail time segments two years ago, he’s received so many gifts from adoring fans that he has run out of room in his studio. One example: Casey skateboarding on the bottom of a skateboard As a solution, Casey has set up an Ebay store, cneistatcharityproject, where he will sell all gifts he can not use, while DONATING ALL PROCEEDS TO VARIOUS CHARITIES of his choosing. In 1985, freelance Dutch photographer (and generally cool guy) Fernando Pereira was killed when the ship he was aboard, the Rainbow Warrior, was sunk by French intelligence agencies. Manned by Greenpeace members, the vessel had been headed to French Polynesia to protest nuclear testing. Twenty-nine years later, in a bizarre turn of events, a member of the original team that sunk the ship, Alain Mafart –now known as Alain Mafart-Renodeir– was one of twelve natural photographers to be selected to have their pieces grace the pages of Greenpeace’s yearly calendar. Upon realizing the dark coincidence, Greenpeace attempted to recall the calendar, though many remain in circulation. Only a year later, and still amidst the hubbub of the Greenpeace incident, Mafart-Renodeir was named a finalist for the prestigious Natural History Museum of Britain’s “wildlife photographer of the year” for his work with Japanese macaques. One of Pereira’s former shipmates probably puts it best when describing the surreal drama surrounding the photographer-killer-turned-photography-star: “It’s kind of tragically ironic–or something.” via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 http://ift.tt/2xQs15G Capturing Motion With Easton Chang

SmugMug Films went behind the scenes of Easton Chang‘s Porsche 911 GT3 shoot, and it was brilliantly informing to say the least. The video centers around the art of making inanimate objects come to life, through the eyes of Chang. Who better to shoot cars, then a car lover? Chang had a passion for cars before photography, and the best way to encapsulate what he loved about cars was to take photographs of them.
An automobile is a designed tool for movement, speed, and performance, so there’s no better way but to capture it in motion, here are some of Chang’s techniques:
Chang makes it a point to shoot the car as a portrait of what it represents with its uniqueness and pedigree rather than just being eye-candy, ultimately separating his work from others. Behind the scenes, Chang’s photography is well choreographed behind and each individual shot holds its own story and boldness. Through his irrefutable understanding of motion and variety of techniques he dabbles with, we expect nothing less. Time to leave those silly ol’ clothes on the rack. For all you young Picassos out there just tryna capture the beauty of the human form, here are some useful pointers from the pros. Don’t find yourself behind any bars thicker than these. 1. Legal AGE– make sure your model is legally able to be photographed nude. Some states, like Tennessee, do not permit nude photography of minors, regardless of your artistic and unprovocative intent. Always be sure to get a Xerox of their ID to ensure age appropriation of your subject. FORMS– get a release form signed prior to shooting. Some states may require a separate release for nude photographs. THIRD PARTY– make sure a neutral (not a friend of the photographer or the model) third-party is present for the duration of the shooting as well as all prior conversations regarding distribution of the photos, etc. Should a dispute arise, this person will verify you did (or did not) play by the rules. PRIVATE/PUBLIC– if a stranger can see your nude model, then they can get offended by your nude model, too. Best bet is to do it indoors or on private property. If you can’t, check your city’s laws on indecent exposure (San Francisco’s is surprisingly strict). And just know, even if it is legal (like in NYC, for artistic purposes) you may still get arrested. Because not everyone has this level of interpersonal skill. 2. Personal NO TOUCHING– it’s always tempting to reposition your model by hand, especially when they’re so close to that perfect pose. Nonetheless, DON’T DO IT. Model the pose yourself, and let them mirror you. KEEP THE ROOM WARM– for obvious reasons. No need to make your model uncomfortable. USE LONGER FOCAL LENGTHS– your model is already in a vulnerable state, so don’t get your lens all up in their grill. Give ’em some space. MAKE SURE THE LOCATION IS PRIVATE– in other words, don’t do the shoot in your room at 4:50 when you know that your roommate gets home at five-o’clock and is known to barge in without knocking. You kidding me with that hand-bra, bro? This ain’t Sports Illustrated 3. Aesthetics NO SHARP ANGLES– asking your model to make sharp angles or bends with their body may lead to unexpected (and unwanted) creases of the skin. Ease up and do something more comfortable. DON’T DO THE HAND-BRA SHOT– just don’t, okay? NUDE DOESN’T HAVE TO MEAN NUDE– sometimes the best nude photography is that which implies nudity. A shirt unbuttoned one button too many can sometimes do just the trick.
Now get out there and capture some homo sapiens in all their raw, captivating beauty.
via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 http://ift.tt/2wlTDvW You grabbed my hand and asked if it felt like we’d been married 12 years. I wrapped my fingers around yours + responded, “No, but it feels like 11 years and 364 days.” That was yesterday. But today? Today it feels like 12 years. All these years later, there are some who wonder how someone like you (kind, thoughtful, warm) could marry someone like me (an impatient buffalo with a rocket strapped to her back). But we work. We blend like watercolors, we spark like fire, we rise from ashes. We work because I can’t breathe without you, and you’re patient enough to make me better. We work because we try. And while there are some who’ll forever wonder how I married such a wonderful man, I’ll simply shrug and say I stopped questioning miracles when my soulmate said, “I do.” Happy Anniversary, my love. Here’s to a twelve-hundred more. via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 http://ift.tt/2xNd6Jq Photo: Jens Kohler, Getty Images Yesterday morning, Microsoft, along with fellow tech-titan Facebook and Spanish-based telecom company Telxius, announced the completion of a 4,000 mile long undersea cable spanning the Atlantic Ocean. The cable–which looks like a thick garden hose– runs from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Bilbao, Spain, and is comprised of eight fiber optic cables wrapped in watertight copper and plastic, submerged to an average depth of 11,000 feet. Dubbed Marea (Spanish for “tide”), the cable is expected to be fully functional by early 2018, when it will transport approximately 160 terabits of data per second, roughly the equivalent of 71 million HD videos being streamed at once. Watch out for my ‘net connection! Microsoft isn’t the only tech company to try its hand at infrastructure building as Google announced last year, once again in partnership with Facebook, that they would be building a trans-Pacific cable. At only 120 terabits per second, however, Google is looking like the laggard. Further, they’ve had production setbacks as they’ve been forced to wrap their cables in a kevlar-like material to prevent shark bites. Basically what it looks like. The impetus for the project, as per Microsoft, is for a “greater resiliency” of networks in the wake of disasters like Sandy and Harvey, where internet connection was down for days, sometimes weeks, at a time. Furthermore, with Congress unable to agree on infrastructure spending, private companies are increasingly being forced to forge their own paths of transportation, whether that be of people (see: Hyperloop) or data. Amidst all this growth and optimism, however, the dangers of tech companies encroaching in the infrastructure sphere is made plain by the words of Microsoft’s own spokeswoman:
Notice the only two programs they mention by name are Microsoft’s Skype and Facebook’s Facebook Live; their priorities in building are far from neutral. If I get hit by a tropical storm and all I have access to is Skype and Facebook Live, imma be all like…. WHAT ABOUT RESOURCE?!? via RSSMix.com Mix ID 8230553 http://ift.tt/2hwoQtR

I’ve been getting a LOT of questions from people about the Instagram rumors of changing the grid from 3-squares to 4-SQUARES. And, yes, Instagram has been testing out the new 4-square grid, but nothing has been confirmed regarding a platform-wide roll out.
So what does this mean for you if you’ve been carefully curating your Instagram grid? Well, you might have to adjust your grid if the placement is thrown off. Like this one…
Why the change? Many suspect that because phone screens are getting larger, a 4-square grid will allow for LESS scrolling and MORE photos to be shown at once.
This has caused many creative business owners to freak out because–hey–who likes such big changes? But since we can’t control the change, why not adapt as quickly as possible?
If (emphasis on “if”) the 4-square grid is rolled out, my advice to quickly clean up your grid is to use the “archive” feature that was rolled out in the new Instagram update. No need to delete your photos…simply archive them so you can get your grid looking good on the new grid as quickly as possible.
Have questions? Leave them here… And if your account changed to the 4-squares, send me your instagram info here as I’d love to check it out!
