How To Beat The Algorithm
9/3/2021
Hustler, do you want to get your posts seen (even if you don’t have a million followers, a picture-perfect life, or TikTok dance moves)? I hope so, because you’re about to learn how to beat the algorithm! Now before that, I do want to be real with you: I’ve coached over 25,000 business owners on the inside of Social Curator and I’ve noticed there are three main desires of business owners:
Can you relate? I’ve also noticed the three biggest struggles that make it harder for business owners to be on social media:
>>If you only listen to one piece of advice I’m about to tell you, I hope it’s this: you have to get past your struggles in order to get your desires.<< You must make time, create content, and be consistent to get seen and get engagement in the algorithm. Your posts are what the algorithm needs to get you what you want. Let me explain…. ![]() Social media platforms rely on your behavior to create a unique feed. This means we could follow the exact same accounts, but our feeds will be different based on how we interact with those accounts. Remember: The algorithm’s job is to keep followers on the platform. It does this by showing engaging, interesting, and relevant posts. There are some followers who like, comment, and share with regularity while others just scroll right past. So are you ready to change how your followers engage with your posts in order to beat the algorithm? There are three main factors that determine what your followers see in their feed, and leveraging these factors in your favor will bring you all that you desire. RelationshipIn order to develop a relationship with your followers, you need to generate engagement. The anatomy of an engaging piece of content is the Social Curator HIC Formula: Hook, Insights, and Call to Action.
>>If your followers have interacted with your past content, the algorithm will be more likely to show them more in the future.<< InterestEngagement indicates interest, the second factor. To increase your engagement and generate increased interest, every post should cater to your ideal client. Ideal clients are followers who know/like/trust your account and support your business. How do you find them? Well, the easiest way is on your Instagram Stories. Stories are a fun, casual way to build relationships. Once you post a story, you’ll notice your ideal clients because they’re the ones viewing most of your stories, voting on polls, engaging with quizzes, and sending you messages. >>Post on Instagram Stories EVERY day to build relationships and increase your ideal client’s interest!<< RelevancyNow we’ve made it to beating the final piece of the Algorithm: Relevancy. When you publish a post, the algorithm gives it a relevancy score, which impacts who it shows in the feed. >>In order to leverage relevancy in your favor, you need to provide consistent inventory, or consistent posts.<< The more you give the algorithm (in the form of posts), the greater chance you’ll have to beat the algorithm. Consistent posts and stories give the algorithm options, which it will then deliver to followers who are most likely to engage. Most importantly, you will not only attract more engaged followers…. You’ll be getting more customers, too.

What NOT To Do On Instagram
9/1/2021
Do you have a pet peeve? *Come on, I know you do!* While I have some personal pet peeves, I also have professional ones, too. *I know, diva much?* Let me explain…. From a professional standpoint, I hate to see business owners waste their time or money on strategies and tactics that do more harm than good in the long run. This is especially true when there are simple and proven strategies that work. If you find yourself longing for growth, I have to deal it to you straight: Growth comes on the back of work. >>Anything that promises quick success is not success that is sustainable.<< Here are some of my biggest business pet peeves that I wish business owners would stop doing on social media. ![]() Spend Money On Shout OutsI know it can be tempting to think that if someone could shout your name from the tallest tower that all your marketing woes would be solved. But that simply isn’t the case. On average, a post will reach 13% of an account’s following and the average rate of engagement is 2-4%. With that in mind, let’s do some quick math… If the account you’ve paid for a shout out has 25,000 followers, the post about you may reach 3250 people. Of those 3250 people, only 500 to 1,000 of those followers will likely engage. But people have become increasingly leery of sponsored content, and that engagement ratio will drop further for content that blatantly endorses or promotes a product. Of those people who do engage, nothing guarantees they will click into your profile, follow, engage, or purchase from you. Instead, focus on the quality of your followers rather than the quantity. When you know who it is you serve and how you add value to their life, it becomes so simple to speak to them in a way that resonates so much more than a shout out ever will. Use Engagement BotsArguably the most damaging on the list: paying for bots to engage with or follow your account. Using bots has the most long term consequences. In order to understand why this is such a problem, you need to first understand how the algorithm works. Any time you post, the platform will serve up your content to those it thinks are most likely to engage. If you pay for bot engagement, your posts will be served up to the bots who engage with your content and not to real people who might benefit from your product or service. And if that wasn’t bad enough, if you ever stop paying for the service, your reach and engagement will tank, because the platform will be serving up content almost exclusively to bots who no longer engage. That indicates to the algorithm that your content is not worth pushing to any other accounts. Ignore Comments On Your PostsIf someone approached you at the store and offered up a nice compliment, would you stare back and say nothing? If a stranger passing on the street complimented your outfit, would you not smile and reply with a thank you? So please, friend, if someone takes the time to type out a comment, react to a story, or send a DM on social media, give them the courtesy of a response. There is no better way to make a person feel unimportant than to ignore them. And that will certainly not lead to a person who knows, likes, and trusts you enough to hand over their credit card information. Sell All The TimeLast, but certainly not least, remember that the original purpose of social media was to be social. Although many people and companies are on social media to share what they do, the consumer still craves that social connection. If you are only promoting what you do, you’ll miss the opportunity to serve and draw people in who not only support you, but become raving fans. If you would like to dive further into what strategies I DO recommend, I’d love to have you check out my Social Media Marketing Guide! Once upon a time, I envisioned building a company to be thrilling, exciting, and fulfilling. While it is all of those things, it also comes with a darker side that few talk about.
Have you ever felt the same? Well Buttercup, you are not alone. In those times where my inner critique tries to get the best of me, I lean into techniques I have learned over the years that keep me grounded and moving forward. One of my favorite techniques to use is affirmations. *I know, it sounds a little woo, but stick with me.* I have found that a good affirmation keeps me from spiraling into the pit of despair and I’d like to share a few of my favorites with you for those days when you feel unqualified in the hopes that they might help you, too. ![]() You Deserve To Be HereAs a daughter of an immigrant and a first generation business owner, I have often stepped into rooms where I didn’t seem to belong. Whether that room is physical, like an auditorium full of an awaiting audience, or your stage is more metaphorical, I want to reiterate that you deserve to be here. >>Your journey has led you here and qualified you to step into that room and up on to the stage.<< You Were Chosen For A ReasonI’m a firm believer that there is a purpose to our existence. And you, sweet soul, have a reason for doing what you do. You were chosen and selected to live this life and fulfil your purpose. Lean into that calling and you will never regret it. You Have A Job To DoSometimes, when the going gets tough, the tough just have to get going. Rolling up your sleeves and doing the dang thing is sometimes just the cure. Your action leads to clarity and that clarity will lead to confidence over time. This Is The Abundance That You Asked ForI reserve this phrase especially for when I am feeling overwhelmed. >>I remind myself that the struggles of today were the blessing I prayed for yesterday and the stepping stone to tomorrow.<< ![]() If you find yourself struggling with feeling down or unqualified for the life you live, I’d love to send you my free Mindset Makeover Workbook that will help you set things straight. 8/27/2021
Do you ever find yourself saying, “Why is it so hard to post on social media?” Then I got tired of singing the same song on a one-string fiddle. It definitely used to be hard for me, but now I have a fail-proof formula for writing captions that is not only easy, but also effective, and I want to share it with you. This formula will work on any social platform. It’s as easy as A-B-C… well, actually, it’s as easy as H-I-C. The HIC Formula stands for hook, insights, and call to action. These are the three vital components of any successful caption. Let’s break down the HIC formula and how you can use it to generate engagement in your business. HookA hook is using the right words at the beginning of your caption to entice your audience to read more. As someone scrolls through their feed, you want to ensure that what you write at the beginning is interesting enough to stop their scroll. >>Your post needs to be read before you can get the engagement that you want.<< Here are a few hook examples you can use:
![]() InsightsAfter you have your audience hooked, you’ll want to add some value by providing what they want or need to hear. >>The most valuable insights you can provide your audience will come in the form of entertainment, education, or empowerment.<< The unique insights that you’re sharing are what will set your account apart from all the rest. Your insights belong to you. Lean into your thoughts, experiences, and stories. They will be the magnetic force that pulls people towards you and towards your business. Call To ActionFinally, the call to action is the most important part of your caption. Why? Because if a post doesn’t lead to action, does it actually matter if anyone read your caption to begin with? Through the call to action, you are giving your audience a simple way to talk back to you. There are two types of calls to action:
The majority of your requests should be in the form of a small ask. This will build connection. Once that connection is established, you can then add in big asks when you are promoting your product, building your email list, or offering more education on your website. See, didn’t I tell you the HIC formula was easy? The HIC Formula is proven to get your audience talking back to you, but I want to remind you of one additional step: You have to engage back! >>Once the comments and messages come rolling in, do not sit silently in response. Keep the conversation going and build authentic relationships.<< ![]() If you’re ready to start showing up for your business in big ways and utilizing the HIC Formula on your social media pages, you’ll also love my Social Media Marketing Guide! 8/18/2021
Have you ever wondered what makes a good Reel? Maybe you’re waiting to post until you have the perfect idea, or maybe you’ve started experimenting with Reels but you are having a hard time discovering what works. *Believe me, I have been there, too.* Since Instagram released the Reels feature, I’ve continually published a minimum of three Reels per week. With all of that experience in my back pocket, I have learned to gauge what people respond to, share, and (hopefully) laugh at. So, I’m sharing three elements of a successful Reel and how YOU can recreate it for your business. Let’s dive in! ![]() Creative TransitionsThis Reel performed really well (currently with over 1 million views) because it has really engaging, creative transitions. It takes a little practice to get right, but transitions keep people glued to your content as you move from one piece of information to the next. It takes added effort, but don’t let that dissuade you. You’re the type of person who goes the extra mile, and it shows! Trending SongAnother Reel that was a hit (also with over 1 million views) succeeded partially because the content was educational in nature, but also because I used a trending song. Trending songs allow others to come across your content when they are exploring casually or looking at Reels that have used that same audio. It’s one way to work smarter, not harder. To find a trending song to use, simply click on the audio icon, then “see more” next to trending songs. Not every account has access to this yet, but be patient. Good things take time! Short and InspirationalThis Reel also has over 1 million views and counting because it’s short and inspirational, making it extremely easy for followers to share with their audience, too. For example, you could tell a funny joke to lift their mood, explain how you get through a bad day, or share your favorite pump-up playlist to start the morning! And there you have it! But one last reminder: The only reason I was able to determine what works for my audience was through creating content consistently. I have tested hundreds of different Reels over the past year to see what works and what doesn’t. >>The only way for you to find out what is successful for your audience is if you keep showing up and creating content.<< Don’t worry, I haven’t left you hanging. If you are ready to dive into Reels creation, you’ll love this Instagram Reels Checklist that will help you cross all the t’s and dot all the i’s. Download it >>HERE<< and start creating today! But I’m going to deal it to you straight: >>Social media platforms rely on user behavior to create unique feeds.<< You and I could follow the same 100 accounts, but our feeds would look entirely different from one another because of the content we chose to interact and engage with. What we see first is related to what we engage with the most. The same is true for your followers. Here are the 3 factors that determine what your followers will see and how to leverage them for success in your business: ![]() RelationshipIf your followers are engaging with you, that indicates to the algorithm that you have a relationship with each other and they want to see more from you. So, how do you create an engaging post? Well, I’ve cracked the code, and it’s called the H.I.C. Formula. In every post, include:
InterestNext, you need to pique the interest of your ideal client by providing content that resonates with them and offers the solution to their problems. The best way I have found to do this is to share to my Instagram Stories. Stories create an engaging, fast-paced environment with a casual atmosphere. The video component offers a unique opportunity to form deeper relationships and show what life is like behind the scenes, which makes you more relatable. RelevanceI’m going to put a stake in the ground and say that you become relevant by creating content. You actually won’t know what people are going to respond to until you create content in large quantities. >>This means that you don’t know what type or topic of content your followers will resonate best with until you create it.<< The more options you give the algorithm and the more you post, the more inventory the algorithm has to serve up to those who are most likely to engage. Now, that may seem daunting, but you are not in this alone. I want to help! ![]() When you join Social Curator, the Social Curator team and I empower you with all the tools and education you need to succeed:

8/12/2021
Do you want 10,000 followers on Instagram? When we started the Social Curator Instagram account, we started with 0 followers on August 28th, 2020. By October 26th, just a couple days shy of the 2 month mark, we hit 10,000 followers on Instagram… And the 3 simple steps that got us to this milestone are what I’m going to pass on to you today. But before we really dive into this topic, I want to make something perfectly clear: >>I don’t believe that the amount of followers you have is that important… But a profitable business is.<<
Having 10,000 followers doesn’t mean you’re more successful, it’s simply a tool to measure your growth. With all that said, there are some benefits to having 10,000 followers: being seen as an authority in your industry, the ‘swipe up’ feature on Instagram Stories for those with a business account, and a bigger platform to share your message. Let’s talk about how you can reach that 10K mark… ![]() Understand Why People Follow You In The First PlaceAsk yourself: why do random strangers follow you in the first place?
Write the answers down on a piece of paper or the Notes app in your phone before moving on to the next step. Keep it Simple, Less is MoreThis one is a little more of a mindset shift. >>If you understand why people follow you in the first place and double-down on that, you will probably realize: FEWER followers is more.<< There are Social Curator members who are going farther with 100 followers than those with 1,000. Why? If you focus on what you don’t have, it will never be enough! Focus on the followers you DO have and your tribe will grow organically. So please, Buttercup, take this sentiment to heart: >>The QUANTITY of followers is not as important as the QUALITY of them.<< Share More of Your WhySimon Sinek said, “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” Studies have shown that the majority of shoppers want to buy from a business with a cause or purpose, so why not showcase yours? Whether it’s representing other women of color in a predominantly white industry or making a better life for your kids, share more of why you do what you do, and you will gain more followers who stand behind that mission, too. Once you know these three things (why people follow you, that less is more, and that people buy WHY you do what you do), then you’re ready to plan your content that speaks directly to your ideal customer. This part is a little bit more complicated, but I’ve got you covered. Social Curator is a one-stop-shop for your social media and content creation needs. It provides tools, education, and support you need to grow on social media. I would love to have you join >>HERE<< so we can build our authority, save time, and get customers… together.
